LA PURISIMA SHRINE – Found at the foot of Hill 522 or Guinhangdan Hill is the La Purisma Shrine. The Spaniards built it in the year 1887. According to stories, the shrine was purposely built to dispel evil spirits, which people during those times believed to be the cause of the many accidents and deaths in the premises and in the adjoining Bangon River. For years, the shrine has served as a symbol of devotion to the Blessed Mother of Jesus. It has also became one of most visited religious landmarks in Palo during the Holy Week, where over thousands of devotees light candles and offers prayers to the the Holy Virgin Mary. For years now, the community where the shrine can be found has adopted the name “Purisima.”
The shrine is located at the foot of Hill 522 or Guinhangdan Hill, Purisima, Brgy. Guindapunan, Palo, Leyte.
